Recently, Kern Valley State Prison (KVSP) in California, donated 503 contraband cellular phones to the Cell Phones for Soldiers Program.
Cell Phones for Soldiers is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing cost-free communication services and emergency funding to active-duty military members and veterans.
Since 2004, Cell Phones for Soldiers has provided more than 300 million minutes of free talk time to our troops and veterans. Additionally, they have recycled more than 15 million cell phones, reducing the impact on landfills while mailing approximately 1,500 calling cards each week.
Rob Bergquist, co-founder of the program, wrote a letter of appreciation to the prison.
“On behalf of Cell Phones for Soldiers and the troops and veterans that benefit from your generous donation, thank you! Each donated device allows Cell Phones for Soldiers to fulfill the mission of connecting troops and veterans with free communication services and emergency funding,” he wrote.
