Correctional Service Canada – Between February 28, and May 16, 2021, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Kent Institution, a maximum security institution in Agassiz, British Columbia and on May 18, 2021 at Donnacona Institution, a federal maximum-security institution in Québec.

The contraband and unauthorized items seized include the following:

• February 28, 2021: Contents sent to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for further analysis (estimated institutional value to be determined);
• March 17, 2021: 3  cell phones, 3 phone chargers, 2 charging blocks, 1 phone adapter cord, 3 USB drives, a small bag of SD cards, several SIM cards, and 6 screwdriver bits (estimated institutional value of $22,000);
• April 5, 2021: 4.3 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 28.4 grams of shatter, and 31.4 grams of THC concentrate (estimated institutional value of $32,000);
• April 5, 2021: Contents sent to RCMP for further analysis (estimated institutional value to be determined);
• April 26, 2021 : Contents sent to RCMP for further analysis (estimated institutional value to be determined);
• May 16, 2021: 14 x 30-gram packages containing THC concentrate, crystal methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine (estimated institutional value of  $203,760).

The estimated institutional value of these seizures is $257,760.  The remaining contents that have not yet been valued are currently undergoing analysis by our partners at the RCMP.

• May 18, 2021, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Donnacona Institution, a federal maximum-security institution in Québec.

The contraband and unauthorized items seized included 26 grams of cannabis concentrate, 14.3 grams of hashish, three cellphones, three chargers and 150 grams of tobacco. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $26,652.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.

CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.

CSC has set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about activities relating to security at CSC institutions. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates, and staff members working at CSC institutions.
